If the history of traditional American Ivy League is of note we’d recommend watching ‘A Modernist’, a film about the life and times of legendary British clothing retailer John Simons.
John Simons has been selling and designing clothes since 1955. His legendary shops in Richmond, Soho and Covent Garden have influenced and inspired countless numbers and he continues to do so at his latest shop, which he runs with his son Paul, on fashionable Chiltern Street in London.
Directed by Lee Cogswell and written by Jason Jules the documentary features exclusive interviews with musicians Kevin Rowland, Suggs and Paul Weller, broadcaster Robert Elms, art expert Ronnie Archer Morgan, advertising guru Sir John Hegarty and Sir Paul Smith as well as John Simons himself.
A good read is Kennedy Magazine, a biannual journal based in Athens, Greece that aims to explore the views and ideas of certain individuals with shared cultural wanderings. We’ve also received the latest issue of 2nd Magazine Japan entitled 2nd Archives "All about Leather shoes 2” from Clutch Cafe.
Music plays a large part of the week for the barker team, we’ve been listening to latest releases by Matthew Halsall, Chip Wickham, Emma-Jean Thackray and Deptford Northern Soul Club.
